Create Space have built 'smart' templates in a generic design to get you started quickly. You can choose these generic design templates, or you can ask us to build a set of templates in your preferred design. We can also recommend designers if you want to develop a new design.

In Microsoft Word, all documents are based on a template, even a blank one. When you work with a document based on a Create Space template it will have extra components built in that will give you an easier way of working with Microsoft Word.

Our intention is that when you use the DocSpace Ribbon and documents generated from Create Space built templates most of the complexity you have had to wrestle with in the past, like inserting and formatting tables, adding landscape pages, formatting a bulleted list, is simplified - so you can stay focussed on authoring content.

How are they different?

The Create Space built templates have the elements that you normally create as you work, already built in. In our experience this saves a document author time and minimises frustration.

These pre-built elements include pre-designed tables, landscape chapters and pages, and of course formatting styles for paragraphs, headings and bulleted lists.

These pre-built elements are designed to work with shortcut buttons on the DocSpace Ribbon which run macros, which perform actions in your document. The templates also have their own 'start document' and 'close document' macros, which help you get started in your document quickly.

Template Macros

The templates include special programs, called macros. The macros run when you start a new document and when you close it.

The 'start new document' macro displays a form in which you can type your document details. It will also display your contact details which you can confirm or change as you need.

When you click the OK button, this information is added to your document where it is required, and it also stores it for later, to be used by the DocSpace Ribbon macros if needed.

The 'close document' macro checks the document and may give you a reminder to do something, like add or remove the 'Draft' watermark. Things that you often forget when you are trying to finalise a large document and get it out to your customers in a hurry.
